Another Wowowee Scandal

"Wowowee” host Willie Revillame on Friday apologized to more than 100 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who complained that they had been deceived by the popular noontime show.

“Pagpasensyahan n’yo na po kung may pagkukulang kami. Sana ay intindihin n’yo muna kung dapat pumila o hindi. Magmula ngayon pakinggan [niyo po muna] ang announcement para hindi na kayo mag-aksaya ng panahon,” Revillame said.

Revillame made the public apology during Friday’s show. He also showed in front of a TV camera a tabloid, Bulgar, with a headline that says: "200 OFWS nagreklamo, Willie sabit sa panloloko."

His apology came after OFWs complained before Quezon City police on Thursday that they were fooled into thinking that Wowowee would have them as studio contestants as what was announced by Revillame on December 20.

It turned out, however, that Wowowee’s Christmas episode was already pre-recorded.

“Galing pa ako sa Pampanga. Tapos ganito pa mangyayari. Napakalungkot, napakasakit ng kalooban namin. Lahat kami nagdadamdam sa nangyaring ito,” one of the OFWs said.

“Willie, ito ang regalo ko sa iyo--'God with us'--dahil alam ko na marami kang problema. Dinalan kita ng mga word of God pero anong ginawa niyo sa amin?” said another OFW Linda Calang.

What irked the OFWs more was that, according to them, nobody explained about the taped show. They also claimed that were even threatened that they would be dispersed by the security personnel.

“Iayos niyo po. Huwag niyo pong balewalain ang mga tao dahil may damdamin din po kami. Marunong din naman po kaming masaktan,” said another OFW.

Taped show

The controversy began after Revillame announced during Wowowee’s December 20 show that its studio contestants for the following week would be composed of OFWs who were forced to come home after they lost their jobs due to financial crisis.

The host said this was in line with the show’s effort to give them a tribute.

Revillame explained that, on the same day, he also announced the schedule for the screening of the contestants. Following the announcement, Revillame said countless of OFWs had lined up to be part of the show.

The said episode was set to be shown on December 25 so as to give the staff a chance to celebrate Christmas with their families, Revillame said. It was taped on December 22.

Prior to December 25, Pokwang, one of the show’s co-host, also announced that there would be no lines for the Thursday's show.

“Sa mga dumating pasensya na kayo. Kami na ang humihingi ng paumanhin. Kung may pagkukulang kami pasensya na ho kayo. Maaaring hindi namin na-announce na walang pila kasi hindi naman magandang i-announce na naka-tape kami,” Revillame said.

In a statement, meanwhile, Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN Corporate Communication’s head, said the Wowowee's location manager had listed the names and the contact numbers of the OFWs involved in the incident “for reference in future live shows."

Wowowee Not Live on Christmas (OFW Response Youtube Video)

At the beginning of the show, Willie clearly said that they were live on December 24 and will be on vacation on the 25 and be back at the 26th

At the end of the show, Pokwang repeated that there will be no line and just to stay home and watch.

What did the 100 owfs didn't understand? Did they even watch wowowee?

Many are already blaming Wowowee and Wilie when the evidence is right there. Play it as much as you want and listen to what Willie and Pokwang said.

24 eh, this time nasa tama naman sila.

lets play fair –   – (Saturday, December 27, 2008 2:39:00 PM)

I'm glad I'll be able to make comments regarding OFW's and Wowowee. Here in states, the show is being telecast 3-times a day. I definitely heard Pokwang saying "wala po tayong pila bukas". I believe Willie simply apologized because Wowowee is in a no-win situation. So Willie did what is best under this circumstances.
Before I begin my comments regarding OFW's, let me say I do have good friends who have been working in the Middle East for so long. Because they perform very well on their respective jobs, their contracts has been extended so many times. They are Engineers and are classmates of mine from Mapua.
With respect to those OFW's who were laid off due to economic hardship, grow-up. I've seen so many OFW's on TV complaining about the government's failure in providing assistance. First thing is first. I do believe these OFW's seek employment overseas on ther own will. I don't think the government pushed these people to go overseas. The government simply provided them oppurtunities should they choose to go. Sure, OFW's provided the government economic growth but it doesn't necessarily means OFW's should be treated VIP's compared to those individuals who are employed in the Philippines. I am fully aware the government called OFW's "the new heroes" of the Philippines. That's the government mistakes buy giving preferential treatment to some group of people. I do not seek enemies to any OFW's. Let's not forget we are responsible for our own actions. Happy New Year To All.

ang problem sa OFW's eh, nagiging masyado na silang generous sa mga kamag-anak here in the Philippines, na palagi na lang nakaabang for remittance.

About the Eat Bulaga, it is clear that it is 1M, ang pera nababawi pero and dangal at reputasyon hinde.
